Using what I learned through my reading of Francine pose and kopp's explanation about Narrative I continue to write about catch 22. When I last left off blog http://creativereading987.weebly.com/blog/intertexual-codes-in-catch-22
I mentioned how the textural codes could be found within the written text of catch 22.I analysis the deeper meaning of the text while looking at mimetic events that fit within the codes. In Chapter 28 the I have noticed that the text or narrator is addressing not only telling the story it is addressing both the reading the audience and those who write.

"All right," he said. "Let's kill Colonel Cathcart. We'll do it together." Dobbs sprang forward off his cot with a look of wildest terror. |
Reading through this passage has made me aware that the narrator wants the audience to question our morals about life. Are we fine with killing someone who is trying to kill us? Is it justified? In the case of the story Yossarian believes it. As the audience we know Colonel Cathcart has been planing on killing or wanting to get rid of Yossarian. The problem however is that Dubbs in a previous action comes up with t6he idea of killing Colonel cathcart and Yossarian disagrees, but resent events like getting injured and raising the mission count to sixty has made him reconsider. The problem however, is that Dubbs is contracting himself.
"Why?" Yossarian stared at Dobbs with an incredulous scowl. "Why? |
Dobbs as the narrator wants the audience to believe that whatever he said or was going to do was false. He wants us to believe that all our effors in this case attempting to do a murder to solve the situation is now ponitless. That in its self is startling. Murder is a big topic not want6ed to be mentioned or spoken about because culturally it is a viloent action. In the case of Catch 22 it is looked at the only soloution to remove once self from the war. Both of these topics "war" and Murder" are big topics. In the case of catch 22 are treated with properly and respect. Which is why Yovssarian is so upset becuase he never wanted to murder to begin with its only because of dobbs that he wants to do it. The other way the narrator adresses the audience is through true meanings
