Within my previous blogs I focused upon Raskolnikov guilt over the plot itself. The plot of crime and punishment is quite clear. Are you guilty for murder if it benefits the people? After Raskolnikov committed the murder he went into what I would suggest a self exile, separating himself away from all human interaction. He became delirious and even insane threatening to do questionable actions. This, I revealed in then beginning blog where he harshly commits the murder. Ever since this action has taken place, he has been trying to ignore all that trans passed between himself and the old women. Within section three we are introduced to the subplot of his sister. She is currently engaged to Pyotr Petrovich a man who is a detective, whom he can’t stand because of the way he holds himself high above everyone else. To complicate matters his cousin Svidrigailov wants her for himself and he even crazier. Within their discussion I found traces of argumentative form. Svidrigailov wants to explain to Raskolnikov the lengths he will go for her hand.
“I’m certain by now you will have formed your own opinion of this mr. luzhin, who is a cousin of mine on my wife’s side of the family, if you’ve so much as spent half an hour with him or even just heard a few of the hard and unquestionable facts about him. He’s not a suitable match for Avdotya Romanova. In the way I view this matter, Avdotya Romanovana is sacrificing herself in an utterly magnanimous and reckless fashion for the sake of…for the sake of her family.”p.342 |
Through his words Svidrigarilov is trying to convince the reader that he is the right person to take her hand. From his back-story we knew he met her when she worked at his home, but left because his wife hated her. He fell in love with her, but she never took notice. Here he trying to show Raskolnikov why he is the right choice to marry her.Supporting the Syllogistic progressive form he introduces the
argument reasons why he should have her. while given reasons why his cousin is the wrong person. He also explains to him that since he is poor she is scarfing herself to improve his economic standing by his peers. By distraction Raskolnikov could be admired by his reasons, but he isn't stupid and sees exactly what he is.

“I think you better stop,’ Raskolinikov said. ‘what you’re saying is outrageously insolent.’ P.348 |
Raskolnikov is becoming annoyed by his presence of explaining himself and wishes he leave, but at the same time if he leaves he won’t be able to discover what is going on with him.
“The voyage? Ah yes…quite so, I did indeed mention my voyage to you…well, that’s quite a long story…And I mean, if you only knew what you’re asking me about!’ he added, and suddenly gave a short, loud burst of laughter. Actually, I may get married instead of going on a voyage; I’m in the process of finding a wife.” P. 350 |
Raskolnikov believes he insane more them himself who is dealing with his own problems. The subject of his sister becomes even more complicated when he realizes that neither one is good for his sister. The way I would explain the detail in more detail is conversing with his friend.
“I don’t know why but, that man really gives me the creep. He has arrived in town having only just buried his wife. He’s a very strange character, and has some sort of desperate plan…it’s as if he knows something…Dunya must be protected from him…that’s what I wanted to tell you-are you”p.351 |
Interesting that the subplot takes center stage. Even through Rakolnikov has committed murder that doesn't mean he is an awful person who still loves his sister very much. He wants her protected against those who would do her harm. His friend I believe will become important latter on. Through the argument Svidigarilov is trying to persuade him that he is worthy, but all he is insane.
“What is one to do, madam; our national railroads are unconscionably long. The so-called “Mother Russia” is great in more senses than one…I am afraid that, all my wishes to the contrary, I was totally unable to be at the station to meet you yesterday. I trust, however, that everything went off without too much bother?’p.354 |
Petrovich is revealing himself by making himself look higher and convince his fiancee's family that he is an intelligent man who will care for her well-being. However, he insults Russia which could imply a lot of things. He is a man who believes he has won his sisters'hand and nothing came stop him from obtaining it. The problem is he has overestimated Raskolnikov.
what you wrote in your letter,' Raskolnikov said abruptly, without turning to face Luzhin, 'was that I gave the money yesterday not to the widow of the man who had been trampled to death, as was actually the case, but to his daughter(whom i hadn't ever met until yesterday). you wrote that in order to stir up unpleasantness between me and my family, and to that purpose you added some filthy remarks about the behavior of a girl you don't even know. it's all base lies and slander.'p.361 |
From here I Can infer that Petrovich freaks out and has no way to come back to the argument as it collapses around him.
